About me

I'm Douglas Guimarães, 20 years old, and I'm originally from Juiz de Fora, MG, Brazil. I've been pursuing a degree in Information Systems at Estácio for the past few months.

I've had a passion for programming since I was 16, and for the last 2 years, I've been working as a freelancer while honing my professional skills. I'm a Fullstack developer, and I undertake various types of projects, ranging from 3D modeling to mobile app development (see the 'skills' section to understand the technologies I use).

I've also participated in and created some open-source projects (you can find their code on my GitHub). Feel free to get in touch with me through the social media profiles listed in the 'contacts' section.

My name is Douglas Guimarães, I am 20 years old, a FullStack programmer, and I am pursuing a degree in Information Systems. I'm going to tell you a short story that encapsulates my LOVE for programming.

I've always been a boy who wanted to pursue this area? The answer is no. When I was little, I wanted to be a firefighter. Curious, right? A completely different profession from what I am today and deeply passionate about. This happened around 2018 or even earlier. My mother bought me a beaten-up laptop at a thrift store. No battery, just a USB drive. That USB drive would change my life because it contained a Linux distribution called BigLinux. At that time, I didn't even know there was a whole open-source and free world outside of Windows. For me, it was just that, but it wasn't. There was so much more, a whole new world to be explored: ideas, completely mesmerizing concepts, and... it all ended when I tried to use a different power source for the laptop and it got fried. But okay... I guess. Because the story doesn't end here, as years later, my father bought me a brand new laptop straight from the store. I was ecstatic, while my dad was... as parents are when they buy something that costs an arm and a leg.

Anyway, it was there. A beautiful, brand new laptop. A quarter of it went to the Windows license, until... The hard drive burned out, and like the idiot that I am, I decided to open it, thus voiding its warranty. However, let's not jump to conclusions, because I couldn't fix it...

My father will certainly not be happy with this information that I just made public. Sorry, Dad. The important thing is, do you remember that USB drive with a Linux distro? I still have it to this day, and at that time, it was very necessary. I used the laptop with various live distros for about two years until I could buy a hard drive with my mom. And after I got to know Linux, I never left it. Okay, I confess, maybe in my second year of high school because I wanted to play Roblox with my friend. But after a week, I returned, and I never left again. And so, after getting to know Linux and engaging with its community, and having to use it and learn to live with 3.5GB of storage as a temporary hard drive, I decided that this was my path from then on.

And today, here I am, aspiring to be a respected Fullstack developer, knowing how a boy who wanted to be a firefighter is now a passionate developer thanks to one technology and two people who are my life.
