"Gênios ao Longo da História" is an educational quiz game developed in the Graduate Program in Teaching in Biosciences and Health at Instituto Oswaldo Cruz/Fiocruz, linked to the thesis "Teaching Sciences, high skills and scientific vocation: youth protagonism in remote psychopedagogical enrichment," developed by doctoral student Aline Rinco Dutra Salgado under the guidance of Professor Dr. Cristina Maria Carvalho Delou. Created by Douglas Gabriel O. Guimarães in partnership with Artur Lanini Casarim and Heitor Neves Crochet.

It was designed to arouse students' interest in science by presenting the biography of ten renowned scientists, inventors, and leaders who were precocious or self-taught in childhood. It is accessible and interesting, making learning more playful and motivating. The game has an attractive and colorful design and is available online, accessible from any device connected to the internet. It challenges players to answer questions related to the featured geniuses in the educational almanac associated, in a multiple-choice format, with four alternative answers.

The questions cover various aspects of the geniuses' lives, from their discoveries and works to personal details and curiosities. Besides the challenge of the game itself, players can also deepen their knowledge about these geniuses and the importance of their contributions to history and society. The associated educational almanac includes historical facts, illustrations, curiosities, and suggests complementary materials such as documentaries, films, online games, exhibitions, and virtual museums, presented through hyperlinks, making learning more dynamic and interactive.

"Gênios ao Longo da História" is an educational tool recommended for students in the Final Years of Elementary and High School, as well as for anyone interested in expanding their knowledge about the history and achievements of mankind.

Google Play doesn't support my device or my Android version

If you are trying to download the game on Google Play and that message appears:

Don't get sad, probably our game runs on your device. But, for some reason, Google Play detects that it doesn't. There are so many possibilities, the most common is that your Android version is old or your device doesn't meet some specific requirements or even your device has specific hardware. Okay then, how can I resolve this problem? It's quite simple, perhaps you can't do it through Google Play.

You'll basically need to go to our GitHub repository and download the .apk and run it. I understand that for some people it may be a little hard, so in the next part of this tutorial, I'll show you how to do that.

Which file should I choose?

Well, you'll probably need the .apk file that has 'all' in its name. But if you know your device's architecture, you can get the one with your device's architecture in its name, which tends to have a smaller file size in MB.

About nomenclature:

  • The "quiz_genios" part is to identify the game.
  • The "v11.07.23-1" in this case means that it is a version that was created on 07-11-2023. The "1" means that it is the first version of the day.
  • The "all", "armeabi-7a", "arm64-v8", "x86", "x86 64"... It's about your device's architecture.
  • The ".apk" are a Android package format that are used to install an app on your device.

OK, I downloaded it, what now?

Well, go to where you downloaded it and just click on it. Then, Android will ask you to configure to permit installing it on your device. The message will probably look like this:

ATTENTION!

Android will probably say that the installation is not secure, but that's not true. The app is totally secure, and it's official from our repository. Your device will say that because it is recommended to install only apps from Google Play, and that's right in most cases, just not in this one. So, when you finish this tutorial, please turn the option off in the configuration again for your device's security.

The next step is to press on "Settings," and you'll go to a screen like this:

Now, click on "Unknown sources" to enable it.

Click "OK" and press Android's go back button until you get back to the installation screen.

Clicking to install, you will probably get a message from Google Play asking you to be careful that will look like that:

Click on "Install anyway" and wait until it finishes.
